Beauty is needed for attraction to occur. It is said that beauty in small matters is favourable, though not essential, and because of its ornamental function it should be applied sparingly. In human affairs, aesthetic proportion comes into being via traditions of transformation.
A persistent transforming tradition, like a mountain made pleasant by the natural beauty surrounding it, sensitizes us to beauty in general. By contemplating the forms of tradition produced by a society, the task of reshaping it is made possible, as we come to understand the changing demands of the time.
